Subject: why I’m voting for LYDIA KOU for State Assembly

I’ve known Lydia for many years, before she was on the Palo Alto city council, before she was mayor. She is a person of INTEGRITY – a quality that’s very important to me.

She is also a strong proponent of LOCAL CONTROL in city planning, which the state government has taken from us with over 150 housing bills, starting with SB50 that ended single family zoning across the state. Those bills have NOT solved the housing problem or the homeless problem, have NOT provided affordable housing, but have given rise to dense, high-rise buildings over which local governments have no control.

Marc Berman, the incumbent, is funded by real estate investors, developers, contractors unions. He voted for all those housing bills that overrode the state constitution and took away local planning control.

Berman was also on the Palo Alto council years ago. He and I were on opposite sides of a bond measure. During a debate at City Hall, when one of the residents on my side of the issue was speaking, a person behind me was making loud disparaging comments about the speaker, snickering and mocking him. I turned around to shush him. It was Councilman Berman. That is not the kind of guy I want representing me in Sacramento!
